CLAY COOK,  Vice President, Advancement 

Clay serves as the Vice President of Advancement for City to City (CTC), where he leads the Advancement Team as they engage with national and global donors and foundations to provide the funds to fuel our ministry efforts. 

Prior to City to City, Clay worked with Cru for 21 years, including the last nine years in New York City. During his time in the city, he was an Executive Director with Cru’s city ministry as well as 2 years at The King’s College in their Advancement Department.

Before moving to NYC, Clay worked on several college campuses with Cru in the southeastern United States and in East Asia. Clay has an M.A. in Biblical Studies from Reformed Theological Seminary as well as a B.S. in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Alabama. He is married to Lyn and has twin 13 year-old daughters, Hope and Emma. Clay enjoys a wide variety of music, good food and college football.

ERIKA GERENA,  Director, Partner Engagement

For over 17 years, Erika Gerena has been making a difference in the area of community affairs, fundraising and organizational development across various sectors. Through her passion and model of expertise, she has helped many community organizations and businesses in the areas of education, health, faith based initiatives, and activism. Her work includes serving these organizations on a local, regional and national level.

Erika lives in New Jersey with her husband and four  children.

MELANIE PENN,  Director, Partner Engagement

Melanie Penn is a native Virginian and comes from a long line of Presbyterian church planters from the midwest. Before them, she descends from some spiritual radicals who sailed to North America on the Mayflower.

Melanie is committed to collaborating with American philanthropists in the southeast who give major gifts to CTC, and she considers it a privilege to help heroic church planters from all over the world.

She lives in Manhattan and is also a professional worship leader and singer-songwriter.

DOUG THORSON, Senior Director, Partner Engagement 

Doug serves City to City's partners and the advancement efforts that support the organization's rapidly growing global footprint. He views his role as a calling to help faithful stewards grow in generosity. 

Doug brings over 18 years of experience in developing key partnerships for charitable organizations. He also brings two decades of marketplace experience in communications, strategic selling, and business planning. His passions are mission clarity, strategic planning and execution, and cohesive integration of all communication platforms that are working toward mission advancement.  

Doug is married to Susan and they have four adult children.  After 28 years in Virginia, they are now living in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan.

MEGAN BOWLING, Project Coordinator, Advancement

Megan has the privilege of working alongside the advancement team in a variety of ways, including working on events and communication efforts, Salesforce management and data analysis and developing new processes. She enjoys utilizing her skillset to serve City to City’s incredible partners.

Megan is an alumna of Wilmington College. Before coming to City to City, she held roles in the for and nonprofit sectors, including client services in programmatic advertising, sales at a nonprofit that helps college students graduate debt-free and marketing at a faith-based startup accelerator.

Megan is a Cincinnati native and moved to NYC in 2017 with her husband, Alec. They live in Washington Heights, attend Redeemer West Side and have the honor of serving as committee members for Young Life. She loves the city’s abundance of unexplored places and events, as well as running, vegan restaurants and all things theatre.

STEPHANIE CUNNINGHAM,  Manager, Events

Stephanie joined the CFW team in March 2014 and works in planning and logistics of the CFW events. Prior to joining CFW, Stephanie was the Director of Events at the Christian non-profit Q, Ideas for the Common Good. She’s had experience in the wedding industry, styling and planning and does freelance event planning, her favorite being bridal & baby showers.

Stephanie moved to NYC in 2006 to attend The King's College, where she graduated with a degree in Business Management. She is originally from State College, PA and now lives in the Harlem neighborhood, Sugar Hill with her husband Cliff where they love hosting celebrations in their home.
