Our Approach
The greatest missionary in history, St. Paul, had a simple, two-fold strategy for reaching out to a new area. First, he went into the largest city of the region (cf. Acts 16:9, 12), and then he planted churches in it (cf. Titus 1:5 - "appoint elders in every town"). Once Paul had done that, he could say that he had "fully preached" the gospel in a region and that he had "no more work" to do there (cf. Romans 15:19, 23). He knew everything that needed to happen would follow.
Today, research shows that new churches are the best way to reach new generations, new residents and new people groups with the gospel - in fact, they are up to 6 to 10 times more effective at attracting people to the gospel than older, more established churches.
Within the next 50 years, 70 percent of the world's population will live in cities, compared with 50 percent today. Urban growth is the missional challenge of our generation.
Gospel DNA
Redeemer has built its ministry largely on an intelligent, rich, urban, balanced, and nuanced approach to the gospel and ministry. We call this approach Redeemer's "gospel DNA".
In 2011 we will be publishing a ministry handbook detailing what comprises our "DNA". In the meantime, click on the video links to the left to learn about our philosophy of church planting and three of our key "DNA" concepts: the Gospel, the City and a Movement.
